She was a sports reporter for some of the largest outlets in the country. Her time working at The Washington Post was spent covering numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN which was where she earned the network two Emmy Awards. In addition, Nichols was a sideline journalist for the Monday Night Football broadcasts. Then she moved on to CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded, a show that she co-produced and hosted aired each one week at CNN International. It was watched by millions of viewers worldwide. Nichols covered NBA broadcasts on TNT, including the playoffs, regular season as well as All-Star broadcasts. Nichols also reported on golf, baseball, and Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been selected from the over 200 nominations.
